Rödl & Partner is excited to announce our Partner and Associate Partners promotions for 2022! We are so proud of our team and all their hard work. These colleagues have displayed outstanding leadership qualities while never failing to go the extra mile. Congratulations to the following team members, and we look forward to your continued success at Rödl & Partner.

What does it take to be a Partner and Associate Partner at Rödl & Partner? We asked our new Partner and Associate Partners to share their experience and insights from their career:

Glendon Gdalman, Partner, is a member of the M&D team in our Chicago office, and in his eight years with the firm, he has been an integral part in the successful growth of our practice in Chicago. His technical skills and knowledge are highly respected in our firm, and he is happy to share his knowledge and time where it is needed. Glen understands the concept of helping the team succeed ahead of his personal ambition and is the ultimate team player.

What characteristics do you find most important in a leader, and how do you try to embody that?

Respect and empathy. If people feel you respect them and have their interests in mind when making decisions, that is one key step in them accepting that person as a leader. I try to have open communication, be honest with my colleagues, and listen to their opinions and take those into consideration when making decisions that affects them/a team.

Knowing what you know now, what would you tell your younger self?

Take longer to finish University and explore more before you start your career. You will never have this much freedom once you start the next phase of your life.

Jia Lin, Associate Partner, is a member of the tax team in our Atlanta office and has been with the firm for seven years. Jia takes responsibility for making sure clients are served at the highest level and is extremely competent in handling tax work and understanding the related tax rules and requirements. She continually performs at a high-level while maintaining the highest level of integrity.

What characteristics do you find most important in a leader, and how do you try to embody that?

Ability to delegate. It is hard to put effective delegation into practice. I try to embody it by pushing myself to assign more work to the staff persons even if it takes longer to explain than completing it myself. I constantly remind myself that this is the way a staff person grows – by doing more work and learning from mistakes.

Why did you join Rödl & Partner, and what has kept you here?

I was referred by my college classmate and friend, Daisy, who joined Rödl & Partner about a year earlier. She told me she enjoyed working here because she felt she was learning a lot and people at this firm were great. It is so true and both of us are still here!

Cami Townsend, Associate Partner, joined the firm in 2015 after a 16-year career in translation with German-language skills. She now is the head of our M&D Atlanta BPO team and does an excellent job managing her team by taking an active role in coaching, advising, and supporting them. She is always willing to go the extra mile for her clients and colleagues, and this mentality and commitment is frequently praised by clients. Cami approaches challenges by meticulously researching and preparing for a solution, and her self-motivation and professionalism is evident to all.

Knowing what you know now, what would you tell your younger self?

If my younger self would listen, I would tell her to block out the noise, slow down, and make venturing out of her comfort zone a priority.

Why did you join Rödl & Partner, and what has kept you here?

I joined Rödl & Partner because I wanted to work in public accounting and valued the opportunity to draw on my German-language skills and 16-year career in the translation industry while doing so. I've stayed for two reasons: (1) My team. I get to work with an amazing group of people in the Atlanta BPO practice. (2) The growth.

Andrea von Oesen, Associate Partner, joined our Manhattan office in 2019 as a licensed Steuerberaterin and Wirtschaftsprüferin. Andrea is success driven and willing to do what it takes to get the job done on time. She is instrumental in developing and guiding staff to enhance their career development, and it is evident to all that she is genuinely a very caring person. Andrea's strong knowledge of German GAAP and audit standards ensures a high level of client service and satisfaction. She faces difficult situations with a positive outlook and is a key ingredient to the further success and growth of the New York office.

What's the most important thing you've learned working in public accounting?

We are a team. The client does not judge the performance of individuals, but the output we present as a firm.

What advice do you have for new staff accountants at the firm?

Approach upcoming difficulties not as problems but as challenges, waiting to be managed and giving you the feeling of success and growth after you have overcome them.

Why did you join Rödl & Partner, and what has kept you here?

I joined for an adventure and new experiences, and I found a firm with a great team spirit that welcomed me warmly and colleagues all over the firm supporting each other, building an environment in which you always strive to do things better and celebrate achievements together.
